Anxiety, fears, and phobias all involve irrational, seemingly uncontrollable and frightening thoughts, which often results in avoidance behavior. In all cases, the person with the disorder is fully aware that their behavior is irrational. The problem is when they become a disorder which impairs the person’s normal functioning.

For most people, worrying is not beyond their control, feeling anxious or fearful is a normal response to stressful or threatening situations. You need to be aware during an exam, meeting performance goals at work, or traversing  difficult traffic. With anxiety disorders, though, the body sends out regular false alarms, driving people into a vicious circle of fear and fearing more panic attacks. In other words, the body primes itself to meet a threat when no threat exists.

In severe cases, people can end up avoiding social contact and shunning everyday activities like driving and shopping, even leaving the house. When people’s lives become so restricted, the condition is called agoraphobia. Early treatment of panic disorder can often stop it from progressing to agoraphobia.

Hypnosis is a safe, comfortable way of dealing with these stresses, worries, fears, phobias and disorders. Hypnosis can help alleviate, but is not restricted to:

  • Generalized Anxiety Disorder - Chronic, excess worry about routine life events and activities
  • Panic Disorder - Characterized by panic attacks, sudden feelings of terror that strike repeatedly and without warning.
  • Post-traumatic Stress Disorder - Persistent symptoms that occur after experiencing a traumatic event, nightmares, flashbacks, fear, and depression are common.
  • Social Phobia - Extreme fear of a social situation that really poses little or no actual danger. Fear can cause people to limit their lives.
  • Obsessive-compulsive Disorder - Repeated, intrusive and unwanted thoughts or rituals that seem impossible to control.
